Square Enix has recently posted a new countdown clock on their site. It’s a line drawing of a house, a river and a bridge in the countryside, and a big number “4.” Accompanying the graphic is an old MIDI sounding tune that is reminiscent of old Dragon Warrior music by Koichi Sugiyama. My guess is that the number 4 more than likely indicates that it will be the 4th game of a series. Seeing as they’ve already remade Dragon Quest IV and Final Fantasy IV, it could be a fourth Final Fantasy Legend, a fourth Romancing SaGa? Tell me, what could it be? If the clock is to be believed, we’ll find out on Sunday July 5th at 11 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. In the meantime, amuse yourselves (and me) by posting what you think it could be!
UPDATE (6/29/09): The countdown clock has added a large dragon in the foreground. Looks like they’ll be adding more and more to the picture as time goes on. You can see the new picture below. I will check back periodically to see if they add more to the picture again.
UPDATE (6/30/09):They’ve now added a rider to the dragon in the picture. Kind of made me think of Bahamut Lagoon, but I don’t see a significance of the number 4 with that. You can see the full progression of pictures below. I’m also wondering if it could be a Final Fantasy Tactics title. There’s the original on PS1, then FF Tactics Advance and A2 for the GBA and DS respectively. So in theory, that could be the 4th Final Fantasy Tactics game.

The mysterious line drawing.

Now with dragons!

Here there be dragon-riders.
