At G-star 2009, MMORPG developer NCsoft released an 11-minute trailer for a new title called Blade and Soul. The trailer is for the North American release of the game, which is as yet undated. NCsoft has made a name for themselves with a wide variety of MMO titles including City of Heroes, Lineage II and, most recently, Aion.
The trailer has some very pretty graphics and shows off a variety of environments. However, the main focus of the trailer is battle animation. There are a handful character archetypes on display, both magical and physical. One thing that looked really cool to me was the Destroyer, who picked up his opponent by the face, carried him up to the cliff edge and slung him off into the distance with his axe. The art style does remind me of MagnaCarta 2 in some ways, which may have to do with the fact that both NCSoft and Softmax are Korean developers. Currently, the English website only has the trailer below on it, but I’m sure there will be more information due out in the near future. Without more information on gameplay and systems, though, it’s hard to say just how competitive this new MMO will be.
