Cryptic Studios has demystified some details about the upcoming MMO based on Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek franchise. Star Trek Online will be offering an open beta for two weeks, January 12-26. This will give Cryptic one week to fix any bugs and server issues that come up before their scheduled February 2nd launch date.
According to Gamespot, Star Trek Online began its closed beta in October, but they are still accepting applications at the Star Trek Online website. Open beta keys for the PC-based Star Trek alternate history game will be given on a first come, first served basis, but are not yet available for application. In the game world, the treaty between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets has been dissolved and the two sides are at odds with each other. The game will center around the war between the two factions as well as with the Borg, and players will be put in position as starship captains for either of the two major combatants.
