This is a great example of why you need to vote some people out of power. He is preventing the will of the people from being exercised because of his personal objections. I can understand why he gets so much hate mail.
Atkinson won’t even consider changing his mind if the report does not include his hand picked pictures which he feels will allow non-gamers to understand what he objects to.
“I also believe that very few people outside the gaming community will have a say in this public consultation, which will mean an overwhelming response in support of R18+”.
Fancy that. Only the people who are affected by legislation will generally be interested in commenting on it. What a shock.
Australia really needs to change their own rules so that they don’t need a unanimous vote of all the Attorney-General’s in order to implement rule changes. One man should not be able to hold back everyone else.

This guy is making a mockery of government, which is impressive when you consider how poorly government is managed in general. How long until they can replace that guy?

Elections are set for March 2010. Commenting closes on the issue in mid February. Hopefully he’ll be kicked out before the final vote is made on the R18 issue.

Here’s to hoping. Maybe the other Attorneys-General can table the issue before vote and delay it until after the election is certified.
