At Sony’s Gamescom press release, they officially put the much anticipated PS3 slim out for all to see. Kotaku has been on the ball and has lots of information for you. The long and the short of it is that there is a 120GB model slim coming out and should be priced at $299, but rumors abound that there is a 250GBÂ model somewhere off in the future. The model will ship with the 3.0 firmware update, but has had some options removed. There is no “Install OS” option anymore; so, no linux on your PS3 slim, KK. There is still no backwards compatability either, which makes me wonder what’s exactly going on with those patents they found a couple months ago. And, I don’t know if it’s true, but from the look of it, it looks a lot harder to change out the hard drive that is in it.
Since I already own a PS3 fat, and KK won’t buy one until they give him back his backwards compatibility, they aren’t generating any new sales, here. Is the slimmer case and $299 price tag enough for you?

Not only will I not buy one without BC. I won’t be getting a PS4 either. They broke the upgrade cycle for me. I’ll just stick with the XBOX which allows you to play your old games. I highly doubt MS will ever pull a Sony on that. Their already used to incorporating BC into Windows, it’s really not hard for them to do this on the XBOX especially since the XBOX runs on WinXP.
Oh well, guess Sony doesn’t want my money.
