sony playstation 3 300x206 Updated: Sony Announces Date For First 3D PlayStation 3 GamesIf you’re in the technological minority who already own a 3D-capable television, you have probably noticed that there isn’t much content for you to enjoy in 3D. Sony has finally put a date to when the 3D video game drought will end, and that day is June 10th…at least in Japan. Andriasang is reporting that three downloadable titles will be the first to get 3D patches integrated into them. Wipeout HD and Star Strike HD will both be updated for 3D compatibility for free while Pain will run you an extra ¥300 for your tri-dimensional viewing pleasure. While the 3D patch should be mostly compatible with non-Japanese PS3s as well, we are not currently sure when the titles will be available in 3D outside of Japan, as well. Sony has been asked for clarification and we await an answer.

UPDATE 6/2/10: Sony has declined to comment on if and when the 3D games will be available in North America; so it would seem it’s not a simultaneous release. Perhaps we will hear more about it at E3.

Sony has every intention of adding more titles to the list as time rolls on since a larger 3D library helps them move their 3D-enabled Bravia televisions. Andriasang also reports that gamers who invest in a new Bravia may receive the three titles for free as part of a package deal along with an early demo of Motorstorm 2 in 3D. Sony is also working on the PS3 firmware update that will enable 3D Blu-Ray playback as well and expect it to be up and running by the end of 2010.
