It’s official. Sony either hates money or it hates gamers. At E3 2009, SCEA Marketing Director John Koller had originally indicated they were working on a plan to allow PSP owners to trade in some of their UMDs for digital copies. Yesterday, they announced a reward program for converts in Europe, but for that step forward, they’ve now taken two steps back. According to Kotaku, a Sony representative told them that “We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time.” It also seems that the PSP Go Rewards program will not be coming to America either.
This is a serious blow to anyone thinking about converting from their current PSP to the new download only PSP Go. There had been rumors that shops would set up places to trade in your UMDs for digital copies, but that theory has clearly been put to rest. There will probably be little to no conversion rate from anyone who owns a regular PSP, but I’m sure they will still see plenty of new users.

See they love money. That’s why you should buy the same game again for your PSP-go instead of trading for a digital copy.
