As part of our ongoing effort to smother the viewers in information, we’re proud to announce that along with our monthly game release lists, we’ll also be offering manga and anime lists, as well, and to start off, here is the manga release list for January 2010 with my personal picks.
2010 starts off with plenty of manga out there. We say hello to Natsume’s Book of Friends and Black Butler while saying goodbye to Oishinbo and Red River as their final volumes are published. Other highlights include a four-volume deluge of One Piece, There are also a couple one-shot titles coming out near the end of the month in Not Simple and All My Darling Daughters.
Personally, I’m looking forward to another helping of the mysterious Spiral ~ Bonds of Reasoning and CLAMP’s crossover epic Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE. However, my pick this month is volume five of Koji Kumeta’s parody-filled Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei. Filled with a mix of silly jokes and satire about society and the anime and manga industries, Zetsubou-sensei and his class of misfits does a great job of keeping the reader laughing. The title sometimes requires a bit of knowledge about Japanese culture and other anime and manga series to get some of the jokes, but it can still be enjoyable even without prior knowledge.
