There’s choices abound this month with boxsets of Naruto Shippuden, Special A, and You’re Under Arrest hitting the shelves alongside new volumes of Bleach and Pokémon. If you’re in the mood for some CLAMP titles, a remastered Magic Knight Rayearth and the complete Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE series set are also coming out in January.
Most students might still be on winter vacation, but my two picks for January will take you back to school. First, the slice of life comedy Hidamari Sketch gets its season 1 box set on January 12th. Hidamari Sketch, a very cute series, follows Yuno during her time at the Yamabuki Art High School. Don’t expect any giant robots battles, just a simple comedy about life in school. My other pick for January is Bamboo Blade part 2. Part shonen battle story, part high school comedy, Bamboo Blade centers around the Muroe High School kendo club. The club is falling apart until instructor Toraji Ishida finds kendo prodigy Tamaki Kawazoe. But is her talent enough to save the club and Toraji’s job from utter failure? This installment covers the second half of the season.
