Gust has released a new trailer for Ar Tonelico III, and, from the soundtrack, it looks like we’ll be enjoying more Reyvateil Hymns in this one. Besides moving to the PlayStation 3 for the first time, the series has undergone some other changes. The battle system looks to be more realtime and the character models aren’t sprite based for the first time. That’s not to say everything has changed, though – the dialogue system seems to be the same, and there will be plenty of anime cutscenes.
My only complaint with this trailer is that starting about the 2:50 mark (and again shortly later), both the male and female voice talent seem to be having a breakdown. I hope the whole game isn’t so melodramatic and that they were just sampling from a very…emotional incident in the story. Ar Tonelico III will be hitting PS3s in Japan on January 28, 2010. No release or license have been announced for North America, but NIS America has handled the other two Ar Tonelico titles, and I would expect them to be working on licensing this one as well.
