rainbow 300x92 FUNimation Hammering Out Distribution RightsWith Navarre considering a sell-off FUNimation in the near future, some questions were raised about the future of distribution for the anime giant, but FUNimation CEO Gen Fukunaga has some answers for Anime News Network. Navarre Corporation currently distributes all of FUNimation’s titles, and according to him, they would continue to do so even if another party purchases the company. Fukunaga also denied that he would be interested in purchasing back the company that he helped found.

Meanwhile, in the realm of digital distribution, FUNimation has secured the rights to simulcast the anime series Rainbow – Nisha Rokubo no Shichinin from Nippon Television. Starting today, the first nine episodes of the series are available to watch online. They will continue to post a new episode weekly until all 26 episodes have been completed. Anime is based on a manga of the same name written by George Abe and drawn by Masasumi Kakizaki. The series follows seven juvenile delinquents who have been put into a reform school in 1955.

    It seems like a business decision for the best of FUNimation. Last year, they announced a new department that was geared towards original content production. http://www.the-games-blog.com/funimation-fills-director-of-original-entertainment/

    Navarre said that they would only sell off to someone who would be looking to expand that original entertainment department. Plus, Navarre has been watching the anime bubble collapse along with the rest of us, and might be worried that it might crash even further. So, they might want to get out before the bottom completely falls out.

    The fact that they would still be distributing for FUNimation means that even if they sell off the subsidary, it’s in their best interest to sell it to someone who would care about the quality of the product.
