Over at Massively, they’ve taken a couple of jumps to their conclusion, but there are some signs indicating beta testing beginning this fall for Final Fantasy XIV. Squeenix has been claiming that they wanted a longer beta period for FF14 than they had with 11, and with the game due out next year, it needs to start soon to fit that claim. The meat of these claims come from job postings from Squeenix Europe. Either they’re planning on expanding the number of people working on 11, firing and replacing staff, or they’re moving some of their expereinced people over to their new MMO. Option A is highly unlikely given the fact that they’re about to release 14 which will probably drop the number of regulars on the 11 servers, and as far as option B goes, I’ve seen some stupid business decisions, but I have faith that Squeenix isn’t that foolish. That leaves us with Massively’s conclusion, option C.
Personally, I’m guessing that there will be some overlap time between the new hires and the veterans switching to Final Fantasy XIV; so, I thinkĀ a September beta might be pushing things. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen in October or November. Being that I haven’t played Final Fantasy 11 in 4 years or so, I doubt I will be in on any beta invitations; so, I’m sure my breath is not as bated as those with access.
