Pick 2. Has he:
- Cured Cancer
- Resigned
- Got hit by a meteorite
- Sued over a comment on a posted on a news website.
- Funneled $33,000 in government money to an organization he belongs to that commissioned a “scientific” study that showed the link between violent games and youth violence was stronger than tobacco and cancer.
If you picked 4 & 5 give your self a nice pat on the back.
First the crybaby part. In the comments section of this article (comment 86)about the harassment Atkinson was giving to Biker Clubs in his district a poster (Dean McQuillan) called Atkinson a “Crook”. Feelings hurt, and revealing in the fact that the poster used his real name, Atkinson is suing Dean McQuillan for $20,000. Get over yourself. As a public figure, especially one that pushes unpopular agendas, there will be people out there that do not like you. Act like a fucking adult and ignore it.
The $33,000 in government money is a grant to support a project called “Know Before You Go” that offers parents information about which films are suitable for children. A spokesman for Mr Atkinson told news.com.au his department provided an annual grant to the council under its trading name Young Media Australia.
The Know Before You Go project involves the council reviewing films, after they have been given a classification, and making its own recommendations about whether they are suitable for children.
So what great insights has this project come up with? Charlotte’s web is not suitable for children as it involves death. Same with Finding Nemo. They also cautioned parents to not let their kids see Bananas in Pyjamas because it contains slapstick comedy and children will become confused and think that falling down stairs wont hurt them.
“We’re concerned that the G and PG ratings don’t give parents enough information to judge whether movies are suitable for their four-year-old or eight-year-old or 11-year-old and that’s what parents want,” she said.
I really can’t fathom what this group thinks is appropriate material for children. Actually yes I can. See the first 45 seconds of this vid.
