3-D Pig Disgusting? Another Problem for Japan’s Birth Rate

Published by Dan Furnas on 29 Jul 2009 at 12:47 pm

It is a well documented fact that Japan’s birth rate has been struggling for the quite a while now. The last few years have shown a slight uptick in the birth rate, but still not nearly enough to compensate for the growing elderly population. The birth rate hit its nadir in 2005, dropping to 1.24 children per woman for the nationwide average. A rate of 2.1 children per woman is considered zero growth, with the extra 0.1 accommodating for early deaths or people who do not go on to reproduce.

Published by Dan Furnas on 22 Jul 2009 at 07:49 am

If My Life as a King played like SimCity meets a SquareEnix RPG, then My Life as a Darklord is the much less well-known SimTower meets a SquareEnix RPG. You play Mira, the newly crowned 16 y/o Dark Lord (or Dark Lady I guess). She is the daughter of the previous Dark Lord who was trapped in a crystal. The game has a very cute-gothic style to it.

Published by Dan Furnas on 20 Jul 2009 at 11:55 am

Last week, the copyright protection on a set of 10 Rorschach blots became public domain. After some debate, Wikipedia decided to post the 10 images. The concern with disclosing the images to the public is that it allows people to pre-form responses to them.
Just for fun, we passed around the inkblots and thought we’d post some responses below. Feel free to tell us how crazy you are in the comments, we’d love to see what you see, too.

The “Hero” of our story is Lord Gromgard third child of Duke Gromgard…

Kotaku finds split reviews on Dragon Quest IX

Published by Dan Furnas on 16 Jul 2009 at 08:00 am

I’m sure that if you enjoy Dragon Quest like me, you’re tired of waiting for the game to be localized. (Yes, I speak Japanese, but I find that I enjoy my RPGs more in my native language. I’m lazy.) It’ll still be a while before it crosses the ocean, but in the meantime, we can all see what Japan is saying about it, right?
